About Kingston upon Hull

Kingston upon Hull, usually known simply as Hull, grew as a medieval trading port at the mouth of the River Hull and became a major centre for fishing, whaling and maritime commerce. The city was the home of anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce and suffered heavy bombing in the Second World War. Its old town, marina and The Deep aquarium draw visitors today. Hull was UK City of Culture in 2017, and with a university and low living costs it offers one of the most affordable rental markets in the North.
