About York

York is one of England's most historic cities, founded by the Romans as Eboracum in AD 71 and later a major Viking settlement known as Jorvik. It is encircled by some of the best-preserved medieval city walls in Europe and dominated by York Minster, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in northern Europe. The narrow medieval Shambles is among the most famous historic streets in the country. A major tourist and university city with good rail links, York offers renters a characterful market within its historic core and beyond.
