Wrexham is the largest town in North Wales, which grew as a market centre and later as a hub for coal mining, brewing and heavy industry on the Welsh–English border. The medieval tower of St Giles' Church is one of the 'Seven Wonders of Wales', and the nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a Thomas Telford masterpiece, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Granted city status in 2022, Wrexham gained global attention after its football club was bought by Hollywood actors. Its university and affordability keep the rental market active.
