About Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton grew as a market and wool town before becoming a major centre of the Black Country's iron, steel, lock-making and japanned-ware industries during the Industrial Revolution. It was one of the first towns in Britain to have electric street lighting and later became known for motorcycle and car manufacturing. Granted city status in 2000 to mark the millennium, Wolverhampton has a university, a compact centre and an affordable rental market serving the wider West Midlands.
