About Wantage

Wantage is a historic Oxfordshire market town at the foot of the Berkshire Downs and is famous as the birthplace of King Alfred the Great, commemorated by a statue in the market place. It grew around agriculture, trade and coaching routes, with the Vale of White Horse countryside shaping its identity. Today Wantage and nearby Grove serve commuters and families working across Oxfordshire, Didcot, Harwell and the science corridor, while retaining a compact historic centre.
