Open Homes workspaceAbout Swindon
Swindon transformed from a small Wiltshire market town into a major railway town when Brunel's Great Western Railway built its huge locomotive works here in 1841, creating a model 'railway village' for its workers. The story is told at the STEAM museum on the former works site, now part of a large designer outlet. Later a fast-growing centre for manufacturing and services, Swindon sits on the M4 with quick trains to London, giving it an affordable and active rental market.
