About Swansea

Swansea grew as a major industrial and copper-smelting centre — once nicknamed 'Copperopolis' for its dominance of the world copper trade — set around a sweeping bay on the South Wales coast. Heavily bombed in the Second World War, the rebuilt city sits beside the sandy shores of Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula, Britain's first designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was the birthplace of poet Dylan Thomas. A university and its coastal setting keep Swansea's rental market lively.
