London was founded by the Romans as Londinium around AD 47-50 on the River Thames and has been Britain's capital and largest city for centuries. It survived the Great Fire of 1666, grew into the heart of a global empire, and today is one of the world's leading financial and cultural centres. From the Tower of London and Westminster to the City's skyscrapers and dozens of distinct villages and boroughs, London offers renters an enormous and varied market, connected by the Underground, national rail and the Elizabeth line.
