About Halifax

Halifax, in West Yorkshire's Calderdale, was a major wool and textile town, and its magnificent Piece Hall — a grand 18th-century cloth-trading hall unique in England — has been restored as a cultural landmark. The town gave its name to the Halifax bank, founded here as a building society. Perched among steep Pennine valleys, it features the Gothic Wainhouse Tower and has drawn film and TV productions for its dramatic streetscapes. Affordable housing keeps its rental market active.
