Gravesend is a Thames-side town in north Kent with a long maritime and river history. It served as a gateway to London for shipping and passengers, with river pilots based there to guide vessels through the Thames. Pocahontas died in Gravesend in 1617 and is commemorated at St George’s Church. The town’s promenade, ferry to Tilbury and rail links to London shape its modern identity. Gravesend offers a relatively affordable riverside rental market with fast access to the capital.
