Gloucester, founded by the Romans as Glevum, is a historic cathedral city on the River Severn. Its magnificent cathedral, where King Edward II is buried, has a stunning medieval cloister that featured as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films. Once a major inland port, its Victorian docks have been regenerated with warehouses, museums and shops. With good links along the M5 and to Cheltenham, Gloucester has an affordable and active rental market.
